FANUC Battery Replacement Procedure
Periodically the batteries in your FANUC robot need to be replaced. Your teach pendant will prompt you when the batteries are getting low and it is important to replace them promptly to avoid the need to remaster the robot. It is good practice to do this about once a year. Please note that there is also a battery in the controller, but this battery lasts about 3-5 years. This article only describes how to replace the batteries in the base of the robot.
STEP 1 - Turn on the controller. It is critical that the controller is on and stays on during this entire procedure. If you remove the batteries with the controller off, you will lose your mastering and need to remaster the robot.
STEP 2 - Locate the 4 screws in the base of the robot and remove them with the appropriate allen (3mm). Please note that this cover is sometimes very snug if it has never been removed before and you may need to tap it with a mallet on each side to loosen it from its gasket.
STEP 3 - Use a flat head screwdriver to remove the two screws from the battery compartment.
STEP 4 - Pull on the center post in the middle of the 4 batteries to remove the batteries. The post is circled in red in the image below. The robot takes 4 C batteries. Note the orientation of the batteries. There are + and - symbols on the outside of the battery housing that indicate which side of the battery should be facing out. These are circled in green in the image below.
STEP 5 - Replace the battery compartment cover and robot base cover. At this time you can turn off the controller if you are not planning to use the robot.
