Roland LEF UV Printer Key Reminders

i.         Set Print area: Hold setup until it blinks, then when the screen says setup media, press setup once

1.      Height – Place object on table (as square as possible, use holes for guidance). Move table back until object is under rear height sensor bar. Raise table until object contacts sensor bar. Arrow Right, press enter for auto height detection.

2.      Scan/Feed – This is your origin.  Press any arrow button to activate, the head will move out.  This is always the bottom right corner of where you want your print area to be, set with arrows/laser pointer and press enter (this process will time-out and you’ll have to restart, so don’t take too much time)

  1. Length/Width – this is the top left corner of your print area.  Any arrow to activate – head will move out, set with arrows/laser pointer
  2. From here, your print area is set, do not move the object you are printing on – go to versa works and in the layout tab, click get media width.  This gives Versaworks the information you just set

ii.         Special Colors (Primer, White, Gloss)– think through the factors that impact your printing.  We went over some examples, but some of it is trial and error.  Primer is used to help with adhesion, things like smooth metals and glass.  White is used to help colors stand out more, use on darker substrates or see through substrates. Gloss can be used as a primer in some cases, but is primarily used to add texture or a clear coat type effect to the print.

  1. The order of your special colors is dependent on the look you want to achieve
  2. Remember to select your special colors from the quality menu and then generate them using the special colors tab at the bottom
    1. Special colors will only generate where Versaworks sees data.  A lot of times, a picture with full white parts will not get a special color generated.  You can verify this when you generate the special color palette by making sure you see the pink/blue/green lines in the preview window
  3. If needed, you can change white parts of your design to RGB 254/254/254 to force Versaworks to see that area and generate special colors

 iii.      Perform maintenance periodically

  1. Perform the test prints in the function>cleaning menu
  2. Perform manually cleaning a few (3-4) times per month
    1. This helps increase the longevity of the print heads and will improve printing

iv.      Shake white ink before printing each day
