Roland BN2-20 / BN2-20A Installation Follow Up

Roland BN2-20 / BN2-20A Installation Follow Up

MOST IMPORTANT DETAIL FROM TRAINING:

The printer should always stay plugged in with the main power turned on. The sub power can be turned off, but the main power must remain of for it to continue its automatic maintenance cycles. If this gets turned of even for a few weeks it can cause damage to the print heads that is not covered under warranty.

Additional Training:

Roland has a very nice training playlist available here:

VersaWorks Training:

VersaWorks is the RIP (Raster Image Processor) software that sets the job up to be sent to the printer. We scratched the surface with it today, but there is a lot more you can learn. Roland has a very nice VersaWorks playlist here:

The VersaWorks user’s guide is found here: https://downloadcenter.rolanddg.com/contents/manuals/VW6_English/

Here is one of the videos from the playlist, which is a great summary of the basic workflow in a short video: Setting Up a Simple Print Job in VersaWorks

Here is another that will show you how to create a cut path using Adobe Illustrator: https://youtu.be/AG_L8mF0c8M

Critical Maintenance Information for the BN2-20 / BN2-20A Printer/Cutter:

  • It is critical that the printer always stays plugged in and the main power switch in the back stays turned on. This will allow the machine to do its automictic maintenance procedures that keep ink flowing. If the printer gets unplugged and sits too long, more than a week or so, the heads can become clogged and this type if issue is not covered by warranty.
  • Manual cleaning should also be performed every couple of weeks even if the printer is not being used. The printer still runs maintenance cycles where it pumps ink through it even if it is not being used, so the manual cleaning procedure is necessary. This is a simple procedure that is detailed in this video: https://www.rolanddga.com/gallery/roland-tv/product-support/printers/bn2-series?wchannelid=ow4vl00gcb&wmediaid=ql8r4i5quu&wvideo=ql8r4i5quu
  • The full maintenance guide is attached. A laminated copy of this guide was left on top of your printer as well. It would be good idea to review it and tape it to the printer where people can see it every time they use the machine.
  • If you are going to let the printer sit idle for a long period (typically over the summer), you must properly prepare the printer for a shutdown. Roland has an article about this here: https://rolanddg.gr/en/preparing-roland-inkjets-for-periods-of-non-use/

Additional Helpful information for the BN2-20 / BN2-20A Printer/Cutter:

To find your machine on the Roland support site, enter your serial number on this page: https://www.rolanddga.com/support

Your machine has various consumables that need to be replaced periodically. I have listed them and linked to the video on how to replace them below. All these videos are on the Roland playlist I listed at the top of the email as well:

To download Roland Media Profiles and install into VersaWorks, visit this page. Select VersaSTUDIO BN2-20A for the printer, Eco-Sol MAX 2 for the Ink Type, Roland for the RIP manufacturer, and VersaWorks 6.x for the RIP Version. You only have Roland media right now, so select Roland for the media manufacturer, but if you buy 3rd party media in the future, you may alter what you do here based on what you buy.

This video will help you understand Media Profiles and what they are for: https://youtu.be/BInCFMCPna8?si=_NPpfj6dQ0JxfZpG

This video will show you how to add the profiles into VersaWorks: https://youtu.be/4OYlcAdPXjU?si=uh4U-2au6-FeC6Yv

To understand costs of replacement consumables, please visit this page. Most consumables for the Roland machine can be reordered directly from Roland’s online store here: https://dgastore.rolanddga.com/. However, Roland does not sell ink on their store. To reorder ink, email services@amtekcompany.com with the ink cartridges you need.

If you need help, contact our support. We can be reached at support@amtekcompany.com or call 1-800-926-8359.
